LATE WINTER / SPRING 2010 WORKSHOPS

Workshops give you a chance to do several ATMs (Awareness Through Movement lessons) in a row allowing for an in-depth exploration into specific themes. Each lesson builds upon the next and results in an increasingly refined sense of coordination, organization, and relaxation. Never been to a Feldenkrais ATM class before? No problem! A workshop is a great introduction to this amazing form of self-improvement.

Wear: comfortable, loose clothing that does not restrict movement

Bring: a blanket to move on, 1 or 2 rolled up towels for head support

we will begin promptly at 7 pm
Experience effortless, graceful movement that you might think is the exclusive domain of dancers, athletes, and children in this Feldenkrais Method workshop. This workshop is suitable for beginner and experienced Feldenkrais students.

We will explore playful movement patterns that will lead you to an entirely new way to make the transition from lying down, to coming up to sit and finally coming to stand. The way that you move will be transformed!

People typically rely far too much on muscular effort and far too little on finesse and efficient biomechanics to move. In addition to causing unnecessary aches, pains and injuries, a lifetime spent forcing movement can be quite costly when strength declines and efforting becomes less possible. Learn to move efficiently now!

Increase your energy (by learning to reduce the amount of effort you expend on movement), Feel more youthful (as you return to movements you may have done as a youth), and Improve your balance and coordination (as you learn to apply awareness to movement). YOU WILL HAVE FUN and learn to exercise in a way that is UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU'VE DONE BEFORE (unless you've already done some Feldenkrais Method classes).

Lengthen Hamstrings without Stretching! - March 27
Stretched in isolation, hamstrings are reluctant (at best) to lengthen and release their grip on your legs and pelvis. Lengthened as part of a whole-body movement that involves your head, back, and pelvis, hamstring lengthening becomes more possible, more comfortable, and longer lasting. Lengthened hamstrings can contribute to better posture, lighter legs, and increased power and stamina during exercise.

Comfortable Neck Series - April dates TBA
Neck pain, stiffness, and discomfort are NO FUN. In this workshop, you will learn to improve neck comfort using a whole-systems approach to movement, i.e. The Feldenkrais Method. This series will occur over 3-4 Saturdays and will include movement sequences that: mobilize the pelvis and shoulders, improve movement of the jaw, and integrate smooth movement of the eyes, all of which contribute to a comfortable, injury-free neck.
