DYNAMIC
WALKING - Moving with Your Whole Self
SATURDAY, JUNE 21
1:00 to 4:30 PM @ A2 Yoga (Map)
When was the
last time you learned to walk?
Learning to walk usually happens at a young age.
The learning process at this young age happens
unconsciously and upon reaching a certain level of
competence with walking, the learning process ends.
What was once a dynamic exploration in gravity
becomes a habitual response. If some of the habits
around walking aren’t optimal, then injury and
discomfort can result later in life. Injuries and
discomfort challenge the habitual way of walking,
perhaps to the point where we seek new learning and
new movement possibilities.
In this Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement™
workshop, we will look at walking from a fresh
perspective and attempt to return the dynamic,
adaptable quality that it once had. This will be
accomplished through several movement lessons
designed to improve the functional relationships
between feet, ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, ribs,
and head to facilitate easy, effortless, and
enlivened walking. The lessons encourage greater
awareness of how we move while introducing new
options for movement beyond what may be habitual or
automatic. Moving with more options and a more
complete image of one’s self can help alleviate
pain, reduce the possibility of injury, and make
walking more pleasurable.
The workshop is appropriate for newcomers to the
Feldenkrais Method® as well as more experienced
students. It is appropriate for those dealing with
chronic pain and discomfort as well as those who
simply want to improve their movement. The workshop
will serve as a great introduction to the
Feldenkrais Method®.
